The Inception Workshop of the "POPs Legacy Elimination and POPs Release Reduction Project" was held on November 17, 2015 in Ankara Plaza Hotel. The Project aims to protect human health and the environment against the harm arising from hazardous chemicals. The Project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and will be carried out jointly by the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization (MoEU). Together with all relevant public institutions, NGOs and representatives of the industry sector have attended the Inception Workshop.
Under the project, elimination of the existing POPs inventories and their wastes, planning and capacity development for the environmentally compatible active management of the future PCB inventories, reduction of unintentionally produced POPs emissions, creation of management capacity for the POPs contaminated sites and institutional/regulatory capacity strengthening activities for an effective POPs and chemicals management will be carried out.
